Language is a bridge of communication and exchange, guiding us to understand the ideas, civilizations and cultures of other peoples. Language is the link that facilitates the dissemination of science, knowledge and technology to people, and it is an essential pillar and an urgent and necessary need, especially in an era when our world has become a small village. Learning English is important because it is the most widespread and used language of science and knowledge in the world. Learning English has become a necessary condition to meet the technological challenges sweeping the world, while ensuring our Arabic language proficiency and preserving our Arabic language, Islamic culture and identity without alienation.

The Department of English Language was established within the departments of the Faculty of Arts / Gharyan previously in 2003 according to the decision of the Secretary of the General People's Committee / formerly, No. 351-352 of 2003, 1371 FDP. The Translation Division has been established in the Section. Since the establishment of the department, it has been providing students with courses in English language, literature, translation and interpretation, in addition to preparing students of specialization to obtain a bachelor's degree, the department serves college students by teaching them English as a general subject in accordance with the requirements of the university. This is in addition to enabling a number of teaching assistants to work in the department.

Leadership, excellence and high efficiency in teaching English language and literature locally, regionally and globally according to a scientific curriculum that keeps pace with the developments of the times and meets the needs and requirements of society.

Department Mission:

The mission of the department is to support the general orientation of the university towards excellence at the regional and international levels, by providing distinguished academic programs characterized by creativity in education and scientific research in the disciplines of language, literature, linguistics and translation. The department also seeks to qualify national cadres with linguistic, literary and research competence to improve society and keep pace with the labor market, by providing comprehensive and integrated education and training in accordance with quality standards and academic accreditation.
